The Swedish Maritime Administration is a government agency which has its tasks specified in the instruction (SFS 2007:1161) for the Swedish Maritime Administration and in the annual appropriations. The Swedish Maritime Administration work to ensure that the transport policy objectives within the maritime area are met in a cost effective manner. Activities are financed primarily through dues and fees on commercial shipping.
The overall aim of transport policy is "to ensure an economically efficient and sustainable transport for citizens and businesses throughout the country."
The overall goal is supported by two main objectives: one functional objective and one considerate objective.
- Functional objective - Accessibility
The design, function and use of the transport system will help to give everyone a basic accessibility of good quality and usability and to contribute to the development effect throughout the country. The transport system will be equal, ie equal to respond to women's and men's transport needs.
- Considerate objective - Safety, Environment and Health
The design, function and use of the transport system will be adapted so that nobody is killed or seriously injured as well as contribute to environmental quality objectives and to better health.
The Swedish Maritime Administration's mission is, based on the transport policy objectives, to develop and balance their activities in the maritime sector so that all the objectives and hence the overall transport policy objective can be met in the long run.
In light of the above objectives, we have formulated a comprehensive goal for our business:
"Giving customers good service, maintaining high quality standards while ensuring that no accidents occur and environmental impact is reduced."
The key words that we have long used to characterize our business is well in line with the transport policy objectives, namely:
- Accessibility
- Security
- Environment
