General summary and statistics of SAR operations 2009
1,116 SAR operations were carried out during 2009. In 1,038 of these, search and rescue units were dispatched. 78 SAR operations were handled without activating any search and rescue units.
In total, 1,947 search and rescue units were dispatched to participate in SAR operations.
JRCC (Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre) was also giving support to SAR services in adjacent countries and to national rescue services. Medical advice between vessels and medical doctors at the Tele Medical Advice Service (TMAS) in Göteborg were relayed at 539 occasions in 2009.
