Informational signs
Inform or instruct mariners that e.g. a certain activity is underway and/or is allowed.
Square, blue with symbol.

Mandatory sign
Indicates a duty for the mariner according to a regulation issued by an authority, usually based on Chapter 2 of SjöTF.

Prohibitory sign
Indicates that certain sea traffic or activity is prohibited or states a speed limit. The signs are posted according to regulations issued by an authority, usually based on Chapter 2 of SjöTF.
Square, white with a red border and black symbol and and a red diagonal bar. Speed limit signs do not have a red diagonal bar. |

Supplementary signs
Provide additional information for other signs, such as limited validity, the dimensions of an area, etc. Also includes leading line boards for marking the location of cables, pipes, etc. |
