Tugboat

The following guidelines are developed as help for ordering the correct amount of tugboats for arrival to/departure from the ports of Södertälje. The guidlines are calculated for a maximum windspeed of 10 m/s. If the windspeed exeeds 10 m/s it may be necessary with additional tugboats than stated in the guidelines below.

Vessels with two propellers or azipod propulsion.

Fully operational* bowthruster compensates one tugboat.

Fully operational* sternthruster, Becker-, Schilling or similiar rudder compensates one tugboat.

Vessel with fixed propeller will not be given any exemption despite equipped with above rudder.

If the vessel has been turned on arrival (the bow is heading south) the number of tugboats can be reduced to one. If the vessel is equipped with bowthruster it can depart without tugboat.

The number of tugboats are decided by the Pilotarea manager.

* With fully operational means that the equipment can be used up to 100%.

The Pilotarea manager can at any time decide additional tugboats for vessels when necessary.
