Pilot boarding a ship

All ships using pilotservice provided by the Swedish National Maritime Admininstration are requested to have pilot ladders rigged in strict accordance with SOLAS and International Marine Pilots Association (refer IMPA Pilot Ladder Arrangement Plan) requirements. 

When vessel's freeboard exceeds 9 metres a combination pilot ladder arrangement is required.

 Large picture boarding arrangements

During boarding operation  a speed of 8 kts and good lee is to be maintained by the vessel.

Pilot ladder is rigged 2 metres above the water level. During ice period when smaller pilot boats are used it is convenient with 1,5 metre above the water level.
