WIND, VISIBILITY AND DARKNESS RESTRICTIONS SANDHAMNROUTE

GENERALLY

These guidelines apply to vessels piloted by Maritime Administration pilots.

Note that individual pilots may, for nautical safety considerations, decide to further strengthen these requirements.

The Maritime Administration may impose specific restrictions governing the arrival of a vessel.

WIND RESTRICTIONS

For piloted vessels with a length over 175 m.

In mean wind speeds between 12-15 m/s, the Maritime Administration will make an assessment of the relevant vessel's possibilities to navigate the fairway.  This assessment is based on whether the vessel is familiar with the pilot area from earlier, the wind direction and other factors expected to affect the vessel's performance. The evaluation will be made as early as possible, but since factors can change quickly, decisions may be made during piloting.

The maritime Administration will not commence piloting assignments in mean wind speeds exceeding 15 m/s.

For piloted vessels with a length of up to 175 m

Normally, no restrictions.

Wind strength is assessed according to the Maritime Administration's wind-gauge on Revengegrund. The wind-gauges on Skötkobben and Lagnögrund and SMHI's BizMet wind forecast are also considered.

VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS

For piloted vessels with a length of over 175 m or a draught of more than 9 m depth.

Reduced visibility = < 500 m

When visibility < 500 m in the channel between Skötkobben - Getholmen, the Maritime Administration will not perform piloting services on this route.

If the reduced visibility affects the greater part of the route Getholmen - Stockholm and is expected to persist, no piloting will be commenced. When reduced visibility is partially present/expected/occurs, the pilot will assess whether piloting can commence/continue.

For piloted vessels with a length of between 140-175 m or a draught of more than 9 m depth.

When visibility < 300m in the channel between Skötkobben - Getholmen, the Maritime Administration will not perform piloting services on this route.

For piloted vessels up to 140m

Normally, no restrictions.

Visibility is assessed according to the Maritime Administration's visibility gauge on Skötkobben.

DARKNESS RESTRICTIONS

For piloted vessels with a length of over 175 m or a draught of more than 9 m depth, and Naval ships with length over 125 m.

For these vessels, the Maritime Administration's times for the first time at the boarding point and the last time for departure at the dock must be followed.

For piloted vessels with a length of up to 175 m(except Naval ships with length over 125 m, se above)

Normally, no restrictions.
