General information:

  • Length refers to L.O.A.
  • Applies under normal weather conditions, sustained wind speed max 10 m/s.
  • For vessels exceeding 25 000 dwt, one tugboat is compulsory on arrival
  • For vessels longer than 140 m, one tugboat (ASD, Tractor) is required with a minimum Bollard pull of 20 tonnes.
  • Vessels equipped with fixed propeller over 125m must always be assisted by at least one tugboat.
  • Exemptions from table on condition that all operating equipment are in in working order

General exemptions:

  • An operational powerful bow thruster replaces one tugboat. 
  • An operational powerful stern thruster replaces one tugboat
  • Active rudder replaces one tugboat. Example: Becker, Schilling or similar High efficiency rudder
  • Twin propellers with twin rudders replace one tugboat.
  • An operational azipod replaces one tugboat.

Specific exemptions:

  1. For vessels > 140m equipped with two propellers and a rudder:
    Deduct one tugboat if the vessel arrives or departs without turning.
  2. For vessels to/from Frihamnen 650-655:
    Vessels > 140m or vessels equipped with right-hand controllable pitch propeller > 125m and must always be assisted by at least one tugboat if vessel with beam > 20m are moored at F638(section 375-550) or vessel with beam > 32,5m are moored outside section 550.
    The above applies during the cruise season at other times consults the harbor the pilots.
    Exemption from  tug restrictions do not apply.
  3. For vessels to/from Hammarbyhamnen and the channel:
    Vessels over 70m, regardless of operating equipment, must be assisted by one tugboat if the vessel intends to move astern in the channel.
  4. Single exemptions for departures can be given by pilots after an evaluation of the ship after arrival.
    These exemptions only apply to one departure.
    A NR member or CLO to be contacted before an exemption is given.
    Quays for single exemptions are:
    Loudden 705-706/ Värtan 505-506 bow outwards.
    Bergs whatever(regardless) side alongside.
  5. Loudden 701-703: For vessels that can not meet the deduction of a tug in whole or in part, are maximum draft of 6.2 m.
    If the tug is of type ASD, tractor with a minimum thrust of 20 tons use ordinary table.

For the Beckholmen docks: Contact the Pilot area manager regarding tugboat restrictions at least 24 hours before arrival.
