The Swedish Maritime Administration has divided its regional activities into 14 areas of SAR (Search and Rescue) operations.

Each area is headed by a SAR administrator who works with prevention in cooperation with regional consultative groups (RSS). These discuss existing regional activities and evaluate current SAR cases in order to develop and improve operations. Large-scale exercises are conducted regularly to test coordination and regional excellence.
