The Swedish Maritime Administration's new regulations regarding fairway dues and pilotage fees will come into force on 1 January 2017. In brief, the new regulations entail a general increase of 8 per cent in fairway dues, while pilotage fees will rise by 5 per cent.
"We have been clear about the fact that, for the first time in many years, we must raise fairway dues when the temporary contributions that the Swedish Maritime Administration received for the period 2014-2016 cease. Parallel with raising dues and fees, we are continuing our efficiency and enhancement programmes," says Noomi Eriksson, Deputy Director General and Head of Management and Control at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
The purpose of raising pilotage fees is to gain greater cost recovery in pilotage operations. Currently, the Swedish Maritime Administration has insufficient cost recovery in these activities, with the deficit being financed by fairway dues.
