The Swedish Seamen's Service is an active part of the international seamen's welfare network. Traditionally, the bonds to the Nordic sister organizations are very strong. There are several examples of practical Nordic cooperation; in the fields of seamen's sports as well as the annual Nordic photo contest for seafarers and ships' visiting in Port Said for Scandinavian vessels passing the Suez Canal. The Swedish Seamen's Service and the Nordic sister organizations are also very devoted to the global cooperation within the International Committee on Seafarers' Welfare (ICSW) and its sub-committee, the International Sports Committee for Seafarers (ISS).
The Swedish Seaman's Service has dedicated itself to the ICSW five-year programme to preserve and maintain the services to seafarers in the ports of the previous Soviet Union, i.e. the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Baltic republics. The International Seamen´s Club of Yalta and the Kaknäs Seamen's Club of Stockholm were the very first seafarers' centres to establish twinning relations.
The Swedish Seaman's Service has also been responsible for some ICSW projects in the field of maritime communications. We have traditionally very close relations with the Church of Sweden Abroad (SKUT) and the Scandinavian seamen's churches in the world ports. They are also represented in the ICSW network, through the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA).
