Approach to Norvik

The Approach to Norvik project aims to create better conditions for the shipping of the future by enabling a new, more efficient pilot boarding location for Nynäshamn, Norvik, Södertälje and the ports of Lake Mälaren. At the same time, the connecting fairway to the Port of Norvik will be developed to enable safer and smoother vessel traffic.

Approach to Norvik

The purpose of the project is to establish a shared pilot boarding point for vessels travelling to and from Södertälje/Lake Mälaren and Nynäshamn/Norvik. The aim is to create more efficient pilotage operations.

The project will result in a new fairway solution that:

  • reduces environmental impact through shorter travel distances for pilot boats and shorter routes for larger vessels

  • contributes to increased safety and better conditions for shipping

  • enables more efficient pilotage operations through a shared boarding point for Nynäshamn, Södertälje and the ports of Lake Mälaren

  • can be implemented without the need for dredging
