The Swedish Maritime Administration and NATO

Sweden’s accession to NATO does not entail any immediate changes for the Swedish Maritime Administration. Our task is to maintain our essential public services and continue the good work we do together.

The Swedish Maritime Administration is an important part of Sweden’s total defence. We help ensure safe and efficient maritime transport to and from Sweden and maintain state-run maritime and aeronautical search and rescue services. The Swedish Maritime Administration already participates in NATO’s civil preparedness activities. Our Infrastructure Department is tasked with representing Sweden and the Swedish Maritime Administration in NATO’s Transport Group – Ocean Shipping. The group addresses issues relating to safeguarding essential societal functions and secure communications at sea.
