“The insights into the dredging companies’ operations were valuable for us and we received a lot of credit for a well-planned and executed arrangement”, says Joel Smith, Director of the Department of Infrastructure at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

Joel Smith opened the Market Dialogue with an inaugural speech for the six European dredging companies visiting Norrköping 9 June.

Before the contractors were invited to the event, all of them had fulfilled the Swedish Maritime Administration’s requirements regarding experience and capacity.

The event focused on the largest projects ahead – Malmporten (Luleå), Skandia Gateway (Gothenburg) and Landsort Fairway (between Landsort and Södertälje). However, the minor projects Umeå, Karlskrona, Landskrona and Ystad were also mentioned.

There is a government decision concerning new locks in Trollhätte Canal. Discussions regarding the most suitable route are ongoing and the project is in cooperation with the Swedish Transport Administration.

The background for the measurements is the Swedish Governments decision to transfer more goods from the roads to shipping. All of the projects are planned to be executed the next few years and the procurement process will be the next step.

“The Market Dialogue was commented as valuable also for the dredging companies”, Joel Smith sums up.
