The Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping has announced that it will not grant leave to appeal in the case concerning the ongoing procurement of a new state-owned icebreaker. The Administrative Court of Appeal therefore upholds the Administrative Court’s decision.

— This means we have taken another step towards placing an order for Sweden’s next state-owned icebreaker, something that has been eagerly awaited, not least by the business community, says Fredrik Backman, Director of Shipping Management at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries won the procurement contract last summer, but the decision was challenged by a competing shipyard. The Administrative Court ruled in favour of the Swedish Maritime Administration, but the ruling was appealed to the Administrative Court of Appeal.

— We hope and believe that we will soon be able to move forward and sign the contract. Not least, the past winter has demonstrated the need for a well-equipped icebreaker fleet, says Fredrik Backman.
