The Swedish Maritime Administration leads Nordic cooperation on the digitalisation of navigation services

Together with its project partners, the Swedish Maritime Administration has been awarded nearly SEK 35 million in funding from the EU and Norway for the Dynamic Navigation ÖKS project, which will develop the next generation of digital navigation services in accordance with the international S-100 standard.
The project will contribute to safer, more efficient and more sustainable shipping in the Öresund, Kattegat and Skagerrak — one of Europe’s busiest sea areas. The partnership includes several public authorities in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, as well as education and research institutes, ports, and system and service providers across the supply chain.
“Through the project, we are developing the digital maritime services of the future and strengthening Nordic cooperation. The aim is to give the shipping industry access to more consistent, up-to-date and reliable navigational information,” says Magnus Wallhagen, Project Owner.
The project will further develop services for navigational warnings, water levels, currents and high-resolution depth data, among other things. It will also test faster transmission of information to vessels and analyse how the new technology will affect the training of future deck officers.
The project starts on 1 July 2026 and runs until 30 June 2029. The total budget is approximately EUR 5.4 million, with EU partners receiving close to 60 percent in funding.
The Swedish Maritime Administration is carrying out the project together with the Swedish partner organisations Chalmers University of Technology and RISE; the Danish Emergency Management Agency, the Danish Geodata Agency, Port of Aalborg and DMC in Denmark; the Norwegian Mapping Authority and the Norwegian Coastal Administration in Norway; and Furuno in Finland. SMHI, the Port of Gothenburg, Intertanko and ECC are also participating.
