Compulsory Pilotage
Pilot is compulsory for inshore navigation. Pilot is available H24.
From January 1st, 2009 the Swedish Transport Agency establishes regulations on pilotage in the Swedish territorial waters. The Swedish Transport Agency also issues Pilot Exemption Certificates.
Pilotage is compulsory for the following vessels and is available H24 as follows:
(a) Trubaduren to Göteborg Skandiahamnen:
(i) All category 1 vessels
(ii) Category 2 vessels of 100m LOA or 17m beam and over
(iii) Category 3 vessels of 110m LOA or 19m beam and over
(b) Skandiahamnen to Frihamnen:
(i) All category 1 vessels
(ii) Category 2 vessels of 80m LOA or 15m beam and over
(iii) Category 3 vessels of 90m LOA or 16m beam and over
(c) East of Frihamnen to Lärjeån river mouth:
(i) All category 1 vessels
(ii) Vessels of category 2 and 3 of 60m LOA, 9m beam or 4m draught and over
(d) In the channel N of Vinga for the following:
(i) All category 1 vessels
(ii) Vessels of category 2 and 3 of 70m LOA, 14m beam or 4·5m draught and over
From December 1st, 2023 new regulations apply (TSFS 2022:94):
Pilot is compulsory for all vessels specified in TSFS 2022:94 Chapter 2 (normal vessel LOA > 70m or Beam > 20m).
Pilot is not compulsory for master who has navigated in the fairway during the last 12 months onboard vessels (fulfilling Chapter 3, §2) as follows:
(a) Trubaduren to Göteborg Skandiahamnen (fairway risk level 2):
(i) Vessel with risk level 1 less than LOA 100m and Beam 20m
(ii) Vessel with risk level 2 less than LOA 90 and Beam 20m
(iii) Vessel with master holding Pilot Exemption Certificate (PEC)
(b) Skandiahamnen to Frihamnen (fairway risk level 3):
(i) Vessel with risk level 1 less than LOA 90 and Beam 20m
(ii) Vessel with master holding Pilot Exemption Certificate (PEC)
Master and officers should accomplish web based training before passage.
